CDEL is currently looking for attorneys and other professionals to participate in its 2010 STOP initiative. The goal of the Senior Tax Opportunity Program (STOP) is to reach out to approximately 1,400 Cook County senior citizens in danger of losing their homes due to delinquent property tax bills and to counsel senior homeowners on the various countywide exemptions and programs available to assist this population with paying their property taxes. Volunteers will be trained to counsel affected Cook County seniors, determine their outstanding tax liabilities, and to advise the seniors of available remedies. In many instances, seniors will be able to take advantage of unused tax exemptions and may avoid losing their homes.

CDEL is looking for 40-50 attorneys and other legal professionals to participate in the program. The training will last two hours and participation in the program will require a total of five to ten hours per participant. Best of all, participation in the project can be completed remotely, there is no requirement that participants go to CDEL's offices!

For more information about MCLE credit and volunteering at CDEL, please contact CDEL's Executive Director, Michael Roth at mroth@probonocdel.org.
