Louis Milot, an attorney practicing juvenile court law in Peoria, Illinois, will give a two-hour presentation on how to prepare, file, and present a successful appeal on behalf of parents who have been accused of abusing or neglecting their children. Recently, Mr. Milot has enjoyed several victories in the Illinois Appellate Court (Third District) on behalf of parents, and he presently has a case pending in the Illinois Supreme Court. Mr. Milot has presented a portion of the training previously for the Illinois State Bar Association.
During the afternoon session, various parent attorneys from around Illinois will present on recent appellate victories that have been achieved on behalf of parents. These case studies will include detailed descriptions of In re Dar. C. (IL Sup. Ct.), Hernandez v. Foster (7th Cir.), Slater v. DCFS (1st Dist. App. Ct.), and In re J.C. (3d Dist. App. Ct.). Additionally, attorneys will present on two important cases currently pending in the Illinois Supreme Court, whose outcomes will significantly impact the rights of parents in varying child protection proceedings: In re A.P. and Julie Q. v. DCFS.
