Attorney Pamela Rae Brown, from Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid's Bi-national Project on Family Violence on international service of process, international property issues, and legal strategies for serving Mexican and Mexican American survivors
Dr. Mary Fabri, Kovler Center on mental health issues in immigrant and refugee communities.

The purpose of the conference is to cross-train family law attorneys, immigration attorneys, advocates, and mental health providers on the issues impacting immigrant survivors of domestic violence. 

This practical training will address the following substantive areas of law:

-Immigration remedies available to immigrant survivors (beginner and advanced level topics), including consular notification, deporation defense, OPs and immigration relief, among other topics

-Specialized family law training on issues impacting Mexican, Arab, Muslim, and Asian immigrant communities, including specific legal strategies

-Training on the physical and mental effects of trauma and how this impacts the survivor's legal case

-Strategies around child support and custody when working with immigrant survivors and their children

-Cultural competency training from Dr. Sujata Warrier 

This will be a unique opportunity to dialogue with providers from various fields.  We will also discuss ways to enhance referrals and resources and improve coordinated response.
